Sylvia H. Johnson – Senior Haliwa Saponi Indian Princess 2017-2018
I am Sylvia H. Johnson. It has been a great honor for me to serve as Senior Princess. I would like to thank the Haliwa Saponi Senior Citizen Organization for having faith in me, family and friends, and to my biggest supporter my husband Sammy.
Being Senior Princess, I had the opportunity to visit with the Cherokee Senior Organization in Cherokee, NC. I participated in the Haliwa Saponi Fourth of July parade and picnic. There I honored our Veterans with a gift! I visited with the Haliwa Saponi Senior Organization in Halifax and Warren County where I called out bingo numbers and donated gifts and gift cards to the winners. I also attended several Pow-Wows in the State of North Carolina. In November, I participated ina traditional Easter Woodland-style performance in the elebration of Indian Heritage Month at the NC Museum of History in Raleigh, NC. Also, I attended the NC Indian Senior Citizen Conference in Fayetteville, NC. There I was a contestant in the 2017-2018 Ms. NC Indian Senior Pageant where I became 1st Runner Up. I had the privilege to represent my Tribe and Senior Citizens at the Miss Indian NC Pageant in Pembroke, NC, the NC United Tribes Conference in Greensboro, NC; and many more places. So farewell for now, but I’m not done yet! A door must close for God to open up another one for me.
I love you all!
