Miss Haliwa-Saponi Princess 1st Runner Up – Leah Mills 2017-2018

Witaxe nikas yesan Leah Mills minkilakewa Haliwa-Saponi winanhe onpiwa.

Hello friends and relatives my name is Leah Mills and I represent the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe.

I am the daughter of Rev. Michael and Jimille Mills; and the granddaughter of the late Murzie and Daisy Mills and William and the late Clint Evans. I am so honored to have had the opportunity to run for Miss-Haliwa Saponi. It was a great experience for me and all of the other candidates. I am more than happy for our new Miss-Haliwa Saponi and wish nothing but the best for her!

I attend the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School and am a member of the Essex Community Church where I am a part of several activities and programs. I also am involved in the Red Earth Culture Class and Native Youth Initiative Program. I love my culture and I love my people.

Although I did not win, I am not sad nor disappointed. I am grateful for the opportunity and will continue to push forward as a young leader in our community.

Again, congratulations to our new princess and welcome to our pow-wow.
