Housing Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation services are available to owner-occupants. Home repairs must address health, safety  and some other concerns. Eligible participants must be tribally enrolled and below 80% of the median income level.

Emergency Replacement

The Emergency Replacement Housing programs seeks to alleviate those housing conditions that pose an imminent threat to the health and safety of very low-income homeowners.

Eligible participants must be tribally enrolled, below 50% of the median income level and an owner occupant. Priority is given to the elderly (62+), near elderly (55-61) and physically disabled.

The outreach department coordinates all resources available to tribal members. The resources include programs and services provided through county and state agencies, as well as those housing programs provided through our Tribal Housing Office. Some of those agencies are: USDA Rural Development, FHA, NC Single Family Rehab, Self Help (Durham, NC) and many others.

Counseling is also available for substance abuse and related issues through our drug elimination program.

Counseling/Outreach

Our non-profit credit counselor provides a credit/debt management plan that will assist you in a becoming debt free. The plan will allow you to consolidate your credit card bills into one low monthly payment, reduce your interest and provide you with the best plan for the future.

Our counselor’s credit/debt management plan is a confidential program designed to provide clients with a unique solution to their financial situation.

Our credit counselor will develop the best plan for you to begin a debt-free lifestyle that will help you to:

· Reduce or eliminate finance charges

· Eliminate late fees and/or over limit charges

· Lower monthly payments

· Consolidate multiple payments into one simple monthly payment

· Re-age past due accounts with creditors

· Create a faster pay-off time

· Eliminate harassing call at home and/or at work

Education is the key ingredient to credit counseling and your credit/debt management plan. Through our credit counselor’s comprehensive credit/debt management plan, you will learn all the aspects of personal money management and obtain the tools needed to manage your finances for the future.

Credit/Debt Management

The Tribal Housing Office is providing homebuyer assistance through down payment grants. Eligible participants must be tribally enrolled, below the median income level, and able to obtain financing. Priority will be given to first-time home buyers and families with children. Participants are required to attend homeownership and personal finance counseling. Down payment amounts will be up to 10% of the total cost of the home not to exceed:

· $10,000 Site-Built

· $5,000 Modular

· $3,500 Double-Wide

· $2,000 Single-wide
