After School Program
The Haliwa-Saponi Tribe sponsors an after school program Monday thru Friday. This program services children between the age of 10 and 18 years old. The program is held at the Multipurpose Building and is in session between the hours of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The Tribe provides transportation to and from the facility.
Some of the program activities include a daily homework session, tutoring on an as needed basis, arts, crafts, recreational activities, a science based program, prevention workshops poster contest, trips and more. Sharon Richardson and Kristina Richardson are the directors for this program.
Summer Camp
The Haliwa-Saponi Tribe sponsors a day camp. This camp serves children between the ages of 6 and 12 years of age and operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 PM at the Multipurpose Building. Camp fees are $40 per week per child. The camp activities will include recreation, arts, crafts, educational activities, trips and more. Participant applications are available at the W.R. Richardson Government Complex. Kiddy Culture Class
The Haliwa-Saponi Young Culture Class takes place at the Multipurpose Building on Tuesday Nights between the hours of 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. This class serves children between the ages of 0 to 11. A responsible adult must accompany children under the age of 5 years at all times. Culture Class offers dancing, singing, drumming, Saponi Language, regalia workshops and more. *
Teen Culture Class
On Thursday Evenings the Haliwa Saponi Teen Culture Class take place at the Multipurpose Building and operated between the hours of 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. This class serves participants age 12 and older. Culture Class offers dancing, drumming, singing, basket weaving, beadwork, leather work, drum making, stone carving, gourd carving, painting and more.
*The Haliwa-Saponi culture classes will take a break for the summer. The last night for culture class will be May 16, 2006. Classes will be back in session in September. Please check your newsletter for exact opening dates.
