Healthy Start/Baby Love Plus
PURPOSE
The Northeastern Healthy Start Baby Love Plus Network promotes strong and healthy communities. The network helps women and families increase their chances of having healthy and happy babies.
Healthy Start Baby Love Plus provides information about prenatal services to prevent the death of a child before his/her first birthday.
The Northeastern Healthy Start Baby Love Plus is a community health program based in Halifax, Hertford, Gates, Nash, and Northhampton Counties. This program began when a group of people came together to develop a plan to give families in this region the best possible chance of having healthy babies. The group included community members, public health officials, and health care providers.
HEALTHY BABIES
In Northeastern North Carolina, infant mortality rates (the number of babies that die before their first birthday) are higher than in other parts of the state. There have been some improvements, but not enough. This program is designed to give babies the best possible start by improving families’ access to essential health and social resources.
Healthy Start Baby Love Plus focuses on helping concerned people and organizations in the five county region.
The Program:
◊ Coordinates regional infant mortality meetings/discussion meetings.
◊ Provides outreach activities and services to families
◊ Provides transportation
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Healthy Start Baby Love Plus relies heavily on input from community members. At the heart of the program is the belief that community members can best design and implement services needed by families in their community. The local and regional, meetings with community members help to set priorities and build bridges between the community and health and social service agencies.
