Gideon Lee has served on the
Tribal Council for over five years. While on
the council he has held the position as member, vice-chair and chairman. As
a councilman, Gid has attended many
local and national Indian conference, representing the Haliwa-Saponi
tribe. Some of these conferences include:
* National Congress of American Indians Annual
Convention in California
* National American Indian Housing Council Annual
Convention in New Orleans
* National Conference of American Indians Executive
Winter Session in Washington, D.C.
Not only does he serve on the council, he presently
serves on or is chairman to the following committees:
* Federal Recognition Committee, Chairman
* Long-Range Planning Committee, Chairman
* Powwow Planning Committee
* By-Laws Committee
* Enrollment Committee
* Personnel Committee
* Finance Committee
On the state level, Mr. Lee is a board member of the Halifax, Edgecombe, Wilson Enterprise
Alliance (HEW) and the National Indian Economic Initiative.
Gideon was instrumental in the renovation of the Old Haliwa
Indian School
which is presently the Haliwa-Saponi
Tribal School.
He has been a member of the school board since
2002.
Gideon has also built furniture for the Halloween
Carnival and helps with the auction at this event each year. He also cooked
barbecue pig for the 4th of July picnic at the Tribal School
this past year.
For the past several years, Mr. Lee has been in
charge of the sale of soft drinks at out annual powwow. He helped each year
to make the powwow a successful event.
