Chief Dr. Ogletree Richardson is the daughter of the late Allen Randolph and Lillie Hedgepeth Green. She is the middle child of a family of 15 children. She graduated from the Haliwa Indian School in 1961. After graduating from North Carolina Wesleyan College, she earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration, an Educational Specialist Degree, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration. The Haliwa Indian School closed in 1969. Thirty years after the Haliwa Indian School closed, it reopened as the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School in 2000, and Dr. Ogletree was the principal. At that time, she was a retiree from the public school system. Dr. Ogletree was elected Chief of the Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe on June 14,2014. She is the first female to serve in this capacity.
• Must be a current full-time employee of the Tribal School
• Must have promoted, designed and coordinated programs to improve the educational service delivery for the students
• Must have developed /implemented innovative programs which improve the quality of education generally in the community or region
• Must have created an awareness of Indian educational needs and service delivery systems, which had an impact on the total school or a significant position in the local community
